Norse Seidr And The Question Of European Shamanism

$20.00

Hexenkunde  digital mini-courses combine beautiful and atmospheric illustrations with an educational and research-based approach to discovering the various ways pre-christian cultures in Europe and beyond have channeled the forces of nature in order to heal and communicate with the spirit world.

Consequently, Hexenkunde draws its research from multiple disciplines such as comparative mythology, folklore studies, ethnoarchaeology and others.

The literature regarding Witchcraft and animistic healing-systems is both vast and complex. Hexenkunde provides deeper insights without overwhelming the viewer, it discusses educational content in order to demonstrate that the mysterious element to the myths, traditions and customs is still alive and well. Hexenkunde is an ethnographic excursion into myth and lore and would like to take you on a journey.

In this literature video-presentation, we will be taking a deep dive into the academic literature regarding both Norse sorcery and shamanism.

Ever since the 18th Century, scholars have wondered if Norse sorcery was ‘shamanistic’, and if it was, how does it relate to the traditional Shamanism practiced by thei neighboring Saami and indigenous Siberian cultures? Norse magic and sorcery was undoubtedly very real to the Norse people and, even more importantly, it may have had a central role in the fabric of the Norse cosmology and worldview.

What is shamanism and where did it come from? What is Norse sorcery and how do we even know about it? Hexenkunde has put much effort and time into researching these questions very carefully and presents this brief introductionary review of the literature in an easily-understood and illustrated fashion.
