Hexenkunde is a small project, however, with the aim of bringing my personal studies forward and to promote the idea of scholarship, whether it is private, independent or professional.

Although it is a personal 'hobby' of mine I am strongly committed to the scientific method and researching these subjects via primary sources and academic literature exclusively.

The internet, social-media and modern subcultures often promote contemporary personal beliefs and assumptions as historical facts (or as ancestral or 'pagan', if you wish).

Terms such as 'shamanism', 'paganism', 'witchcraft' are indeed a part of modern entertainment and likewise modern subcultures.

Hexenkunde, however, wants to emphasize that in order to truly comprehend such cultures, their histories and consequently their inherent cosmological belief-systems, we must take a step back with our modern assumptions and personal beliefs, especially if they relate to prehistoric or pre-Christian cultures.

If we choose to make them a priority in study and research, there is the risk of gaining very little that is historically accurate.

DISCLAIMER:

Hexenkunde welcomes the increasing interest in folklore, mythology and pre-Christian cultures, not just in Europe but world-wide.

As a research-project and platform that is dedicated to reviewing academic literature and primary sources, Hexenkunde would like to emphasize that the work carried out on this project aims to provide factual insights into Witchcraft, Shamanism, Animism and 'pre-Christian' cultures/cosmologies in its traditional and original/historical sense.

Therefore, Hexenkunde is not personally affiliated with any modern, neo-shamanic or neo-pagan groups and can not provide advice for spiritual practice or guidance. Likewise, Hexenkunde does not support any political and/or ideological misuse of the subjects being researched.
